Strengthening IGAD’s Migration Policy Implementation (SIMPI II)
The SIMPI II project supports the implementation of regional policies on migration and displacement within the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region. It leverages IGAD's capacity to provide comprehensive and regional solutions for migrants and refugees in the Horn of Africa through four components:
- The migration policy component promotes cross-border recognition of qualifications and improves the availability of harmonized and high-quality migration data at regional and national level.
- The refugee policy component promotes the integration of refugees, returnees and host communities into national education and labor market systems in order to strengthen their self-reliance.
- The cross-border cooperation component supports social cohesion and access to basic services for the mobile population in Moyale, Ethiopia, and Moyale, Kenya.
- The learning and knowledge management component enhances systemic learning within and between IGAD member states on displacement and migration.
- Duration of Contract: Six month

Responsibilities
This internship will provide you with a strong understanding of operational processes related to project management and communication in a highly political context. During your internship you will carry out the following tasks:
- Support the monitoring and evaluation specialist in data collection.
- Assist in creating short technical articles for external communication (e.g., website, blogs, social media).
- Support the development of project posters and/or component specific posters.
- Conduct background research to support project activities when required.
- Support any other project-relevant tasks as identified by project management when necessary.
Required qualifications, competences, and experience
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in public relations, international cooperation/international studies, political science, economics, or another relevant field; alternatively, applicants must have completed their studies no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
- You have a strong interest in development policy and a basic understanding of the challenges related to forced displacement and migration in emerging and developing countries, as well as knowledge of regional economic organizations such as IGAD.
- You have gained initial experience in the field of development cooperation (e.g., through internships, study abroad programs, etc.).
- You are proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and videoconferencing platforms (MS Teams, WebEx, etc.).
- You are well-organized, capable of working independently, and enjoy teamwork.
- You have excellent written and spoken English skills, and proficiency in an additional language (German and/or French) would be an advantage.
